Beaver is both a borough and the county seat of Beaver County, Pennsylvania. It lies about 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Pittsburgh, at the meeting point of the Beaver and Ohio Rivers. 4,838 people were living in the borough as of the 2020 Census. Beaver's History

Indians from the Shawnee tribe previously lived in Beaver but were subsequently driven out by people from tribes like the Mingo and the Lenape. During the French and Indian War, it was a section of the Ohio Country that was under contention. It was a part of the Ohio Country that was contested during the French and Indian War.

Fort McIntosh, a Patriot frontier fort from the Revolutionary War, was built in Beaver. The First American Regiment, the oldest active unit in the US Army, lived in the fort after the war. In 1788, the fort was abandoned, and shortly after, it was destroyed. There was no longer a need for a permanent garrison to guard the area because the frontier had moved further west by that point.

In 1792, the community was established. It was designated the county seat of the newly founded Beaver County in 1800. In Beaver, the first county court was founded in 1804. Development was constant until 1879 when the Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad's arrival sparked a significant growth spike. A significant flood in February 1884 left behind significant devastation. At the location of Fort McIntosh, an archaeological excavation was carried out in 1974.

Local government representatives suggested combining Beaver with Brighton Township in late 2007. The Governor's Center for Local Government Services reported that merging the two towns might result in a sizeable financial gain. The form of the combination was also taken into consideration: either a merger, in which one municipality would become an annex of the other, or a consolidation, in which the two municipalities would combine and adopt a new name. Voter approval was required for any union.
